Homeschooling Adventures: Creating Space

Hi guys :) I am doing weekly topics for the blog and have decided that Tuesdays are for homeschooling adventures. My son had a very hard time in public school with all the loud noises, so we are giving homeschooling a go.

Especially, since he got lost in the attic at school one day from running out of his classroom during class change. He panics if things get too loud and usually tries to find a safe space. Unfortunately, the door to the attic was open and he went up there. Luckily the teachers found him and called me. Talk about having a panic attack.

Now we are giving homeschooling a try. I’m excited to share this journey with you guys too. Writing and blogging give me an outlet to express myself, process my experiences, and gives me the opportunity to share and connect with others. If you have any suggestions or experiences with homeschooling let me know in the comments below. I have no idea what I am doing haha, learning as I go.

Okay, back to the topic at hand, the first thing I did once I decided to homeschool is I created a space for my kiddo to learn. We do not have a lot of space; we are in a small one-bedroom apartment after staying in a women and children’s center in 2024, when I left a domestic abuse relationship. We are saving up for a bigger space, but I am highly grateful for the home we have currently.

I won’t lie; it took a lot of time and patience to figure out how to make a homeschooling area in such a small space. I took the living room, and my son took the bedroom, which is quite large, so I bought a room divider and split the room in two. One side has his bed, bigger toys, and other items. The other side is set up for learning. I even made my own makeshift desk. It’s adorable lol

The reason I divided his room is because he gets distracted very easily, so I wanted to make sure he was paying attention to the lessons and not his toys. We don’t always have the divider in use, just when we are doing lessons.

It’s not perfect, but it will do for now. I’m hoping to find a house with a living room and a den so I can convert the den into our homeschooling area. I’ve learned that sometimes you just do the best you can while working towards the future :)

Also, if space cannot be found, there is nothing wrong with kiddos learning on a couch, outside, at the kitchen table etc… what works for one family may not work for another <3 I’m just sharing my journey on this little corner of the internet. I plan on sharing our projects, lesson plans, resources, and more every Tuesday at 10 am.

Thank you for taking time out of your day to read this blog post. I hope you have an amazing day.
